Our farm is nestled on a fertile ridge top in Anderson County, near Norris, Tennessee.
We are family-owned and operated, and have been selling produce to farmers markets and restaurants since 2001 in the Knoxville-Oak Ridge area. We've had the farm for more than 40 years. Through the years we've raised cattle, quail, and hogs, but currently only grow produce. The vegetable and fruit sales started as a hobby a few years back to share the extras from our abundant garden, orchard, and berry patch. It grew every year and now the whole family is involved in the business.
All of our produce is grown sustainably. We use only Non-GMO seed. We rotate crops bi-annually, at a minimum, to improve soil health, and confuse pests. Our soil is nurtured by adding compost, using mulch, and by planting beneficial cover crops as green manure to be tilled back into the soil. Cover crops provide organic matter for soil dwelling microorganisms to break down, consequently releasing nutrients into the soil in a from that is usable by plants. This helps to cut down on soil borne pathogens and disease, and works as a natural weed suppressant, while feeding the soil nutrients as it breaks down slowly over time. We vermicompost and use the "worm tea" as a natural foilar plant food. We use raised beds with drip irrigation to conserve water, control erosion, and save valuable space. We test our soil annually for pH as well as what nutrients or micro-nutrients it might be lacking, so that we can adjust accordingly. Our farm works in harmony with the land to sustain a healthy, fertile and biologically active environment. Our soil is the proof: rich, dark, high in humus, and full of earthworms. All you need to do is taste our produce to be a believer.
We also work hard to operate the farm as sustainably as possible, by reusing and reducing our waste as well as selling all of our produce locally. From farm to market our produce travels 25 miles or less, which means it is picked daily, and always fresh.
Our motto is quality and taste first. Our entire organization is graded to this end, from our choice of seed to our soil maintenance. Except for its size, it is the same family garden and orchard we have always had, and we are happy to be able to serve you.
